יום 1: 7 בספטמבר

השיוט הראשון בגביע אמריקה ה-34 החל בתחרות צמודה במיוחד לאור השליטה הבלתי מעורערת של צוות ניו זילנד בגביע לואי ויטון. אל המצוף הראשון הגיע צוות ניו זילנד קודם, ושמר על ההובלה עד למצוף השני שם הפער בין הסירות עמד על 4 שניות בלבד. בלג השלישי, במעלה הרוח, ההובלה עברה בין הסירות מספר פעמים אך לבסוף אל המצוף השלישי הגיע צוות ניו זילנד 25 שניות לפני צוות אורקל ארה"ב, ושמר על ההובלה עד לקו הסיום, שם ההפרש עמד על 36 שניות.

השיוט השני החל גם כן בהובלה של צוות ניו זילנד, למרות תמרונים אגרסיביים של צוות אורקל ארה"ב לפני הזינוק, עליה הוא שמר עד לסוף המירוץ תוך הגדלת הפער בין הסירות עד ל-52 שניות בסיום. בכך צנ"ז הביא את התוצאה ל2-0.

יום 2: 8 בספטמבר

המירוץ השלישי נפתח במהלך מוצלח של צא"א כשהם הצליחו לדחוף את צנ"ז אל מול הרוח ליד המצוף ולהענש בהתאם. צא"א החזיקו בהובלה כל הדרך למצוף השני שם ההפרש בין הסירות עמד על 18 שניות, ונכנסו ללג השלישי, קדמיות, בכיוון המועדף. נקודת המפנה במירוץ הגיעה כאשר צא"א נאלץ לפנות דרך לצנ"ז למרות שעל פי חוקי השיט הגיע לו את זכות הקדמה, בגלל הקרבה הגדולה לגבול המירוץ, פחות משלושה אורכי סירה. מהלך זה הפך את היתרון של צא"א, זכות קידמה, על פיו וגרם לכך שבמקום שצנ"ז יפנו דרך ויאבדו זמן וגובה, צא"א נאלץ לבצע סיבוב מוקדם. בסוף לג זה צנ"ז הוביל בבטחה, 29 שניות לפני צא"א, יתרון עליו הוא שמר עד לקו הסיום, אותו חצה 28 שניות לפני צא"א, ובכך הגדיל את היתרון ל3-0.

יום 3: 10 בספטמבר

המירוץ החמישי החל בהובלה של צא"א, עליה הוא שמר ברוחות הקהות. עם זאת בדרך חזרה, ברוחות החדות, צנ"ז פשוט הפליג טוב יותר ועקף בקלילות את צא"א ואף פתח פער של מעל דקה עליו הוא שמר עד לסיום, בניצחון של 65 שניות והגדלת הפער ל4-0. פערי הרמות נבעו מטכניקה עדיפה של צנ"ז; במהלך שיוטי גביע לואי ויטון צנ"ז התאמן והגיע למצב שברוח מתאימה הם מסוגלים לבצע סיבוב על הסנפירים, תוך כדי ריחוף. הדבר גורם לכך שהסירה לא מאטה כמעט כלל ואין צורך לצבור מהירות שוב על מנת לרחף, לכן ברוחות חדות יש להם יתרון משמעותי. תוצאה זו שברה את צא"א מנטלית; לאחר הובלה משמעותית הודגשו פערי הרמות בין הסירות וצנ"ז גבר בזכות טכניקה טובה יותר בתנאים דומים ולא בזכות טקטיקה עדיפה. בעקבות ההפסד צא"א השתמש בזכות הדחיה שלו ודחה את השיוט השני שתוכנן ליום זה.

יום 4: 12 בספטמבר

עם פתיחת יום השיוטים הרביעי הודיע צא"א על החלפת הטקטיקן. ג'ון קוסטקי, בעל ניסיון עשיר של עשרות שנים בהפלגה במפרץ סן פרנסיסקו, פינה את מקומו לבן איינסלי, סקיפר סירת הגיבוי של צא"א.

יום זה נפתח ברוחות חלשות משמעותית ביחס לימים הקודמים אך בדומה לשיוטים הקודמים גם כאן צא"א זינק טוב יותר מיריבו, צנ"ז, והחזיק בהובלה במורד הרוח, עם פער נאה של 12 שניות, אך שוב במעלה הרוח נתקל בעדיפות הניו זילנדים ברוחות החדות ונפער פער של 44 שניות לטובתם עליו הם שמרו עד לקו הסיום שם ניצחו בהפרש של 47 שניות והגדילו את הפער ל5-0.

השיוט השביעי נפתח בהובלה של צנ"ז ונגמר כך בלי שצא"א יאיים על שליטתם לאורך כל הדרך, ובפרט בלג השלישי, במעלה הרוח, שם נפתח פר משמעותי, בהפרש של 66 שניות והעלה את המאזן הכולל לתוצאה המוחצת 6-0, שני שליש מהדרך להנפת הגביע בידי צנ"ז.

יום 5: 14 בספטמבר

השיוט השמיני נפתח בהובלת צנ"ז, עליה שמרו עד לאמצע הלג השלישי אז התקרבו האמריקאים לעבר הניו זילנדים, ובמהלך סיבוב, כדי לשמור על ההובלה, ועקב תקלה טכנית במערכות ההידראוליות, המפרש הראשי לא עבר בזמן. עקב כך התרוממה הסירה והגיעה לכדי מעלה מהתהפכות. האמריקאים המשיכו קדימה והשופטים קיבלו את דרישתם לעונש עקב כניסת צנ"ז לדרכם, מכאן כבר לא היה לניו זילנדים סיכוי והם סיימו 52 שניות אחרי האמריקאים, אם כי נדמה שהם בעיקר שמחו על כך שסירתם נשארה בחתיכה אחת.

ניצחון האמריקאים הביא אותם סוף סוף לאפס נקודות, ללא עונש, כך שמעתה הם יצברו נקודות זכות על ניצחונות בשיוטים.

גם השיוט התשיעי נפתח בהובלת צנ"ז אך הוא בוטל, במהלך הלג השלישי, על ידי צוות השיפוט עקב רוח חזקה מהמותר.}}

יום 6: 15 בספטמבר

במירוץ התשיעי ראינו את המיטב שיש לצא"א להציע, כבר בזינוק הוא הקדים את צנ"ז ושמרו על ההובלה כל הדרך אל קו הסיום ובפרט בלג השלישי, לג הקדמיות, עימו הם התקשו להתמודד עד כה. ניצחון זה, השני ברציפות, לראשונה, שם את האמריקאים על הטבלה עם התוצאה 6-1.

את המירוץ העשירי ניצחו צנ"ז, בהפרש של 17 שניות, במירוץ שנחשב לאחד המלהיבים בתולדות גביע אמריקה בכל הזמנים. על קו הזינוק נדמה היה שלאמריקאים יש יתרון אך למרות המיקום העדיף ומהירות טובה בזינוק הצליחו צנ"ז להשתחל למעגל הפנימי למצוף בהפרש זעום ובעזרת יתרון זה לחצות 3 שניות לפני האמריקאים ולהגדיל את הפער עד ל-11 שניות בשער השני. בלג השלישי הראו האמריקאים שהם לא ויתרו, ולמרות שנפתח בהפרש של מעל 100 מטרים בין הסירות התחלפה ההובלה במהלך הלג 3 פעמים כשלקראת השער האט צנ"ז בכדי לפנות דרך לצא"א ולעבור מתחתיו, אמנם, אך במהירות גבוהה ולחצות שנייה אחת אחריו את השער. במהלך הלג הרביעי, כשהתוצאה הסופית ממש לא מוחלטת קיבל צא"א החלטה להאט (ועקב כך להפסיק לרחף) ולעבור מאחורי צנ"ז במקום לבצע מהפך ולהישאר לצדם. החלטה זו התבררה במהירות כהחלטה לא טובה, כשהפער בין הסירות גדל במהירות למעל 100 מטרים, בו הצליח צנ"ז להחזיק עד לקו הסיום, ולקבוע את התוצאה על 7-1.

יום 7: 17 בספטמבר

רוחות חזקות גרמו לדחיית שני השיוטים מיום זה, למרות ששני הצוותים קיוו להתחרות. השיוטים נדחו פעם אחר פעם עקב רוחות חזקות מ20.1 קשר שרק התגברו עם הזמן עד שלבסוף בצהריים דחתה ועדת השיפוט באופן רשמי את השיוטים ושלחה את השייטים והקהל בחזרה לביתם.

יום 8: 18 בספטמבר

Team New Zealand led all the way to win race eleven by 15 seconds to move to match point in the race for the Cup. During the pre-start, Barker maneuvered in front of Spithill and then delayed both boats crossing the start line till well after the gun had gone. Oracle performed well on the upwind beat, but Team New Zealand covered well, and the boats rounded opposite marks 17 seconds apart. At the final mark Barker kept Aotearoa between Oracle and the mark, and the rounding was well below the usual speed. Team New Zealand were able to accelerate away leaving Oracle almost dead in the water on the sprint to the finish line, taking the score to 1–8.

The second race of the day suffered a 15 minute wind delay postponement, right as the boats hit the start line. Barker had nailed a time on distance sprint to the line to jump out to a lead on the way to the reach mark. The boats made their way back to the starting area, but the wind and the strong outgoing tide combined to confirm the postponement of racing for the day.

Trying to wrap things up in the first race of the day, Barker was aggressive in the pre-start. It did not pay off, and Spithill was able to get into a position where Team New Zealand was forced to keep clear. From that lead off the start line, Oracle led the whole race to win race twelve by 31 seconds on the line. During the upwind leg, Oracle's performance was excellent, which including getting up on the foils at speeds approaching 32 knots. Oracle gained their second point to take the score to 2–8.

The start time for the second race of the day was pushed back several times due to the wind exceeding the allowed limit. At one point the teams were able to enter the box, but the wind then exceeded the limit again. Racing was then postponed for the day, allowing Oracle to stay alive for another day.

Day ten brought the lightest winds seen in the 34th America's Cup. The start of the first race was pushed back by 5 minutes, due to the need to shift one of the marks on the start line. Oracle had the better start in the 8-קשר (15-קמ"ש; 9.2-מייל-לשעה) winds, and luffed Team New Zealand at the reach mark. The first downward leg was very different from the rest of the racing, as neither boat was able to get up on its foils. Aotearoa appeared to be the stronger boat in the light breeze, and rounded the leeward gate 1:42 ahead of the Americans. The Kiwi boat continued to extend their lead during the third leg and the main concern turned to whether they would be able to cross the finish line within the 40 minute race limit. Unfortunately for them, despite being ahead by more than 1,000 metres in winds of between 7 ו 11 קשר (13 ו 20 קמ"ש; 8.1 ו 12.7 מייל לשעה) near the end of the fourth leg, with 90% of the race complete, the time expired forcing the abandonment of the race.

Spithill tried to hook Barker during the pre start to gain advantage, but Barker managed to prevent Oracle from gaining the overlap. Team New Zealand led over the line, and took a 3 second lead around the reach mark. The pivotal moment of the race came towards the end of the second leg. Team New Zealand were slightly ahead and tried to cross in front of Oracle who had the starboard tack advantage. Spithill had to evade the Kiwi boat, and gained a penalty for the infraction. With the boats still close heading into the leeward gate, Barker fluffed his lines, and Aotearoa ended up being forced to jibe twice in quick succession. Oracle sped away to begin the third leg leaving the Kiwis almost dead in the water. That was effectively the race, and Oracle confirmed their third point by 1:24 at the finish. The New Zealanders' largest defeat of the Cup to date brought the score to 3–8.

יום 12: 22 בספטמבר

Racing on the 22nd of September brought the America's Cup into its third week, equalling the previous longest regatta in Cup history, the 31st America's Cup. A whale was also spotted in San Francisco Bay, bringing enough of a concern that it was tracked to ensure it would not affect racing.

Race fourteen was another end to end win by Oracle. Starting in the leeward position, Spithill again luffed Barker hard substantially past the reach mark. This set up a strong lead for the first downwind beat. On the upwind leg Team New Zealand were able to close, and at one point had to dip under the American boat. They could not press the advantage however, and Oracle led well around the top mark. Team New Zealand once again closed right up to the American boat about halfway down the fourth leg, but could not make the pass. Oracle closed out the win by 23 seconds to bring the score to 4–8.

Team New Zealand led off the line for race fifteen, but the leeward position of the Oracle Team USA boat allowed them to round the reach mark first. A huge downwind leg from the American boat saw them round the leeward gate 1 minute ahead of the Kiwis. They did not give up, and were able to cut Oracle's lead in half by the windward gate, but were unable to make up the rest of the gap. Oracle had their best day on the water yet, winning both races to bring the score to 5-8.

יום 14: 24 בספטמבר

Race seventeen saw two penalties at the start against Emirates Team New Zealand. During the prestart Dean Barker made his move too early, allowing Spithill to hook Barker. Oracle then took full advantage of their windward-leeward right of way, forcing Barker to try and stay out of the way. Due to the extremely low boat speed at the time, Team New Zealand was unable, and there was contact between the two AC72's as a second penalty was awarded against the Kiwis. By the time the penalties had been completed, Oracle had accelerated away to find themselves up by 18 seconds at the reach mark. Oracle built this to a 29-second lead to leeward gate although this was trimmed to 19 seconds at the end of the third leg. Oracle went on to win by 27 seconds and cut Team New Zealands lead to 7–8.

"We're not going to stop--we're going to keep going all the way to the end", said Spithill. "We really want this. You can sense it on board". Barker called this defeat "an absolute shocker" as he ended in "a really dead spot".

In race eighteen the Kiwis led at the start and up to the first mark. They set the speed record of the series, reaching 47.57 knots (55 mph, 88 kph) as they rounded the mark, to lead by 5 seconds. They kept the lead during the first downwind run, but Oracle got ahead at the first crossing on the upwind leg after the Kiwis made a poor tack. Team New Zealand had starboard tack advantage and the lead at the time, but did not properly cover Oracle. The American boat was up on the foils, and powered past the Kiwis. Oracle went on to lead by 57 seconds at the windward gate and kept the lead for the rest of race, winning by 54 seconds.

This result tied the series 8–8 and forced a winner-take-all race. Spithill called this win "very impressive" and said, "It gives us a lot of confidence going into tomorrow", saying that Wednesday will be "the most exciting day in the history of our lives. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else".

The final day of the 34th America's Cup brought only the third winner-takes-all match in Cup history (previous such matches had occurred in 1920 and 1983). Barker and Spithill have also both moved into the top 5 all time America's Cup skippers during this regatta.

Team New Zealand had port entry advantage, and were able to convert this into the leeward position at the start line and a lead around the reach mark. Oracle had a moment where both bows dipped into the water, slowing them to open some separation between the two boats. The first downwind leg saw both boats foiling at around 40 קשר (74 קמ"ש; 46 מייל לשעה), at times well within 100 מטרים (330 רגל) of each other. Team New Zealand took the lead into the upwind third leg, but were unable to hold it. Oracle once again showed their upwind foiling ability and were able to pass with ease. Team New Zealand and Barker refused to give up, but in the absence of any mistakes from Oracle, they confirmed their victory 9–8 by 44 seconds on the line to the cheers of the crowd.

At the press conference following the race, Barker said his team was feeling "pretty smashed, they are feeling it pretty bad", whilst Spithill said Team NZ were a "tough team".
