משה מעוז (נולד ב-19 במרץ 1935) הוא פרופסור אמריטוס ללימודי האסלאם והמזרח התיכון באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים, ומנהל המכון למחקר ע"ש הארי טרומן למען קידום השלום שבאוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים. מעוז הוא מומחה בעל שם עולמי לעולם הערבי ולמזרח התיכון, יועץ לענייני ערבים לראשי ממשלה ולשר הביטחון. בנוסף, פרסם מעוז 20 ספרים ו-56 מאמרים בתחום המזרח התיכון.

ביוגרפיה[עריכת קוד מקור | עריכה]

מעוז נולד בתל אביב. בגיל 12 הצטרף לאצ"ל, השתתף באימוני שדה והדביק כרוזים בתל אביב. שירת באצ"ל עד קום המדינה. בשנת 1952 סיים את לימודיו בתיכון והתגייס לצה"ל שם שירת ביחידה קרבית.

את לימודיו לתואר ראשון סיים בשנת 1958 באוניברסיטה העברית במגמת היסטוריה של המזרח התיכון, שפה וספרות ערבית. הוא החל לעבוד כעוזר ליועץ ראש הממשלה בן-גוריון לענייני הערבים בארץ בשנת 1960 ולאחר כשנה ב-1961, המשיך את לימודיו באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים והשלים תואר שני בהיסטוריה של המזרח התיכון ויחסים בינלאומיים, בנוסף, למד גם טורקית וצרפתית.

בשנת 1966 השלים תואר Ph.D בקולג' סנט אנתוני, אוניברסיטת אוקספורד, אנגליה, בהיסטוריה של המזרח התיכון, והחל משנת 1968 שימש מרצה באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים. במקביל, החל משנת 1971, כיהן כיושב ראש המכון ללימודי אסיה ואפריקה באוניברסיטה העברית.

בשנת 1975 סיים את תפקידו במכון ללימודי אסיה ואפריקה והחל לנהל את המכון למחקר על שם הארי טרומן למען קידום השלום באוניברסיטה העברית. הוא המשיך בתפקידו עד שנת 1978, כשבמקביל, משנת 1977 ועד 1979, ייעץ לוועדת חוץ וביטחון בכנסת. ב-1978 שירת בשירות מיוחד בצבא בדרגת אלוף-משנה עד שנת 1980. בשנים אלו שימש כיועץ לענייני ערבים לשר הביטחון דאז עזר ויצמן.

בין השנים 19831986 שימש מעוז יושב ראש החוג ללימודי אסלאם והמזרח התיכון באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים ובמקביל היה חבר בוועדות המייעצות על יחסי ערבים-ישראלים לראש הממשלה שמעון פרס.

בשנת 1992 חזר מעוז לנהל את המכון למחקר על שם הארי טרומן למען קידום השלום, באוניברסיטה העברית ובמקביל היה חבר בוועדות המייעצות על יחסי ערבים ישראלים לראש הממשלה יצחק רבין. באמצע שנות התשעים הקים את העמותה הישראלית ללימודים בינלאומיים.

בשנת 1998 כיהן כיושב ראש המרכז לחקר החברה הערבית בישראל ובשנת 2003 החל לכהן כיושב ראש עמית בדיאלוג היהודי-איסלמי בפורום של נשיא המדינה.

מעוז הוא אב לשתי בנות - פרופסור יפעת מעוז[1] וד"ר דריה מעוז.
